How the All-Time Ranking Works
The ranking is primarily based on the overall standings of the World Rally Championship (WRC). For the period before the establishment of the WRC, the system incorporates the most prestigious international rallies of their respective eras, with the historic Rallye Monte Carlo holding a particularly prominent position.
The period from 1973 to 1977 is treated differently. During these years, the WRC was centred on the manufacturers’ championship, while a full overall championship for drivers had not yet been established. Manufacturers are therefore evaluated through the World Championship standings, whereas the drivers’ ranking for this period continues to be based on results from individual major rallies.
