About the Rankings
The ranking is based on the most important global competitions across the Test, ODI, and T20 formats, primarily World Cups and other major international tournaments. The historical development of the ICC team rankings is also incorporated for each format from the period in which the respective rankings became available.
Test cricket requires a different historical approach. Before the introduction of the international Test ranking in 1952, bilateral Test series are included in the scoring system to reflect the structure of international cricket during that era. From 1952 onwards, bilateral series are replaced by the ICC Test Team Rankings. The Ashes are the only exception: due to their exceptional historical continuity and significance, they remain part of the ranking throughout their history, but with a reduced point value.
